Welcome to the South Dakota Environmental Review Tool (ERT) – an interactive resource for conservation planning and environmental review by South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (SDGFP). This site provides access to information on biological diversity, protected lands and other natural resources for conservation planning purposes. It also allows users to submit projects for review of potential impacts to rare, state or federal listed species and their habitats in South Dakota.

Conservation Planning: The tool allows users to access information for land use and conservation planning without having to log in. Anyone can freely view and create maps from information on protected lands, species distributions, and other natural resources of conservation value by clicking the Map tab above.

Environmental Review: A user must be registered to submit proposed projects for environmental review and further department assistance. To register, click on Create New Account. After logging in, users will be able to use the “Create Project” function to create and submit a proposed project for review. The review will provide a report that evaluates the project’s location and activities for potential impacts to rare, state or federal listed species and their habitats.
